When I first met André Vu (’13) and Jordan Meas (’13), they were warming up with the team for their first League game of the season. With seven matches under their belt, co-captains Vu and Meas are confident in their abilities.
The team faced their toughest opponent, Long Beach Wilson, in their first game, and since then André, Jordan and the rest of the team has been getting better and better.
Both boys have each been playing for five years and, coincidentally, were introduced to golf through their fathers. With such a strong dedication to their sport, they each practice four hours a day, but even more on the weekends.
“It just really fascinates me,” said Meas. “I couldn’t really golf my first time but I was like ‘Wow, I want to do this again.’”
Vu and Meas have been on the boys golf team since they entered high school and both hope to play long after they graduate.
Vu has been offered a scholarship to play for the University of California, Riverside while Meas will continue to be captain next year.
They’re exceptional players who are still humble when it comes to their skills.
“It’s like I’m his left butt cheek and he’s my right,” Vu said.
Despite the teams many victories, the team bonds through priceless moments, according to Vu. “Van rides – that’s when the team really bonds together and we have the most fun on the van rides,” Vu said.
With eyes set on winning League and making it to CIF, Meas and Vu continue to make each putt count in order to lead their team into victory.
