Last week, students from various groups and activities at school joined together from period 1 to 5 to discuss FVHS in a leadership summit.
“Basically a bunch of volunteered and selected leaders were sent to be together to discuss the matters of how we can all be leaders and affect the people around us in a positive way,” said Dominique Gaoa (’14).
The goal of the meeting was to talk about different points of view and discuss what should the school be doing to improve its overall environment.
“The group was very diverse. There were people of all different races as well as people who do different sports and activities within the school,” said Maddy Hughes (’15).
Last week’s meeting was led by Ms. Olaya, Mr. Schultz, and Coach Fenton. Some teachers selected a student from one of their classes to participate in the program.
“I met with Ms. Olaya and Dan Han from Orange County Human Relations and we wanted to do something to positively impact the campus and more proactively address anything that would considered to be bullying or harassment,” said Ms. Marion.
“This is the first time this program has come around. I’m sure there has been other football players involved but this is the first time for most the seniors and others to be involved,” said Jacob DeSierto (’14).
This leadership meeting discussed many of the perceptions of FVHS and which issues need to be addressed at school in the future.
Hughes spoke about FVHS’s reputation for having better grades than sports.
“I spoke a little bit. It was mostly to address our schools reputation for having better grades than sports,” Hughes said.
“The leaders that led us were magnificent. I especially loved everything that went on. My coach helped on a segment of it and I could say that to me, he’s a role model along with those who led the program on Friday,” said Gaoa.
“It helps everything. Mentally, it prepares me to become a better player and leader to my [football] team,” Isaiah Davis Jr. (’14) said.
