FVHS students will experience their first Winter Festival on Friday, Dec. 6 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m between the 300 buildings and Choir room. Hosted by ASB, the event will feature a dance floor, swing dance lessons, a DJ, a canned food drive and food sold by various clubs.
“Seeing all the club spirit is great, and it shows a really fascinating side of FVHS besides school spirit,” said Red Cross activities director Benjamin Din (’14).
Open to the community, the festival will be an opportunity for everyone to gather on campus and spread some holiday cheer. Friends and family will be able to enjoy food and activities while supporting clubs and raising money for charities. Similar to the Club Carnival held earlier in the year, FVHS clubs will line the walkways with their own booths and try to make a profit by selling food.
KIWIN’S President Manuel Santiago (’15) said, “We are hoping to not only raise money for our club funds and the charities we work towards, but to also make sure our members and the ones we serve have a great time!”
The main focus of the event will be the opportunity to make money for club funds or charities. Students will be asked to bring in canned foods to contribute to a canned food drive taking place during the event. If students mention their club’s name while turning in their donations, they will receive a raffle ticket and their club will receive points. The club with the most points at the end of the night will be refunded for the $25 fee it paid to be in the Winter Festival.
“The main purpose of this event is to have something our community and school can enjoy, but at the same time benefiting the clubs,” said ASB member Hoang Nguyen (’14).
