Last Friday varsity boys basketball lost to the Newport Harbor Sailors by seven points at the White Out game. This leaves them with a current standing of 1-7 in Sunset League and 7-17 overall.
The Barons started the game off with a rough start, scoring 12-21 by the end of the first quarter. Calvin Le (’16) earned the team a total of 17 individual points with five clean three-pointers and another basket. Luke Jacobsen (’15) hustled cross-court with the ball and made quick passes to his teammates, who fought hard to keep up with Newport.
Things started to look up for the boys after the halftime performance by the pep squad, as they closed the 9-point difference on the scoreboard. The Sailors missed three consecutive free-throws towards the end of the third quarter, while the Barons played hard and caught several rebounds.
“I was excited to see the team rally back from a 15-point deficit and get it all the way to three points. Even though we lost in the end, we gave it our all and played out hearts out. It was such an incredible experience to have played in such an electrifying game,” Jacobsen stated.
The Barons ultimately lost with a final score of 65-72.
“Of course it’s disappointing to lose and even more so when it’s such a close game and at your home court,” said Jacobsen. “I loved the support we had from our student body though and the energy they brought to the game. They truly were the ‘sixth man’ on the court.”
The Pack the Gym dance was louder than ever as the anxious crowd rushed through the doors at 9pm. Homecoming DJ Gary from N-Effects spun for the night, as everyone danced under the laser lights.
“The DJ played awesome music that was mostly techno, but I liked the vibe and had a great time,” said Kate Gordon (’15).
