Wednesday, Baron Wrestling went against Edison in the gym. The Barons came out victorious, winning a tough match against their rivals the Edison Chargers.
FVHS started out strong with wrestlers, including Ben Madrid (‘15), Andrew Morgan (’15) , Stone Escobedo (’15), Carson Ayres (‘17), David Galdamez (‘15), Blake Vasquez(‘16) and Vincent Nguyen (’15), whom pinned their opponents early on in their matches. After these matches, the Barons began setting the pace for the competition. The boys went on to win a total of nine out of their 14 matches. These wins led them to a overall winning score of 56 to 21.
“They were some tough competitors. They ran it. Some of our tough line of middle weight class competitors and we came out on top.” said wreslting coach Robert Vasquez.
The most notable match was when Gunner Brisbine (’16) engaged in an epic tug of war. This caused the crowd go to the edge of their seats chanting and cheering him on and giving him the final push to win the match. The fans kept cheering through out the whole game giving the wrestlers enough effort to make them win.
“I think we did really well, we have a really good team this year,” said Morgan. “Everyone did well. We had some byes which are always good, but still we had some tough matches, but everyone did great while going at their matches.”
