March 2015 Announcements

Morning announcements for Monday, March 30th, 2015:       

Congratulations to Andrew Morgan!  Over the weekend, he traveled to Virginia Beach, VA to wrestle in the National High School Coaches Association Senior Nationals Tournament.  Seniors wrestling in the tournament are by invite only and because he placed 3rd in the state of CA he was invited. But now, not only is he a 2x state place winner, he can add High School All-American to his resume!  Andrew placed 6th in a very tough tournament and now becomes Fountain Valley Wrestling’s very first High School All-American!  Congratulations Andrew, you earned it!

Barons softball wins big in double header against Rancho Alamitos on Saturday.  In game one it was a full team effort and a big first inning with the bats coming alive and going on to win 16-2 with Sarah Johansen getting the win.  The Barons kept things going in the second game with a 30-7 win.  Liana Castro gets the win, freshman Delaney Sheppard was player of the day with a home run!  Baron’s softball plays Yorba Linda this Thursday here at home. Come out and support Baron Softball!

Last Thursday, the boys and girls track teams swept the Marina Vikings on all levels.  Saturday, track traveled to Utah for a competition at Utah Valley University.  Annelise Doerr ran an incredible 57.15 in the 400 meters, breaking a school record that has stood since 1979.  Natalie Grohmann continued her undefeated season winning the 800 meters, and Davina Pham ran the 5th fastest and 7th fastest times in school history in the 100 and 300 hurdles.  The 4×400 relay finished first overall, running 3:57 which is 3rd in school history.  The girls relay featured Mistina Gonzales, Annelise Doerr, Natalie Grohmann, and Jennifer Nguyen.

The boys track team was led by Jake May who finished second in the discus, and members of the 4×100 relay who ran 43 seconds finishing first overall.  The team was composed of Nathan Willoughby, Dakarai Barnett, Arty Ramirez, and Nick Malone.  William Hua ran a season best time in the 800 running 2 minutes flat, and the boys 4×400 relay finished off the day winning first place.  That team was composed of Nathan Willoughby, Elias Ghazlani, Philip Bui, and Nick Malone.

Seniors a representative from the Community College system will be on campus tomorrow during 5th period in the library to address any questions you may have regarding registration to any and all California community Colleges.

FVHS Vocal Music Program Presents.. A Spring Showcase & Senior Recognition this Wednesday, April 1st at 6:45pm at Shoreline Church, tickets will be on sale at the door $8 for Adults and $5 for students/children.

PTSA Senior Scholarship deadline is this Wednesday, April 1st, you must be a member of PTSA to apply.  Membership forms are available in the school office.

You have until this Friday, April 3rd to vote for Teacher of the Year.  Please vote for one veteran teacher and one teacher who is new to Fountain Valley High School this school year.  ANYONE can vote: Students, Parents, Staff, and Administrators.  Ballots and ballot boxes are in the Administration Office, the Activities Office, and the Library.  Help PTSA choose the Teachers of the Year!

Congratulations to our March B4L raffle winners!  They are: Alana Akau, Malia Baricuatro, Stephen Clevenger, Jeremy Goble, Lucas Gomez, Jackson Labadie, Brandon Ha, Sebastian Luna and Emily Sweeney.  They each won a $25 gift card of their choice for consistently demonstrating the Baron spirit!

The City of Fountain Valley will be hosting 300 special Olympic athletes, traveling all the way from the Netherlands.  These athletes will be competing in the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles.  The Fountain Valley Recreation Center is hosting a fundraiser at Lamppost Pizza on Brookhurst and Warner, from Monday, March 30th through Friday, April 3rd from 5:00pm-11:00pm to raise funds for these athletes.  F.V. Proud!

Imagine your teachers acting crazy and silly on a stage in front of an audience. Wouldn’t it be fun to watch them as they jump around and play games? Well then come check out the FVHS Improv Team on Friday, April 3rd from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in room 309! Watch as four of our improvisers take on four of our funniest teachers including Mr. Yarnton, Mr. Zick, Ms. Hollingsworth and Mr. Felix!  It is only $3 for students and $5 for anyone else at the door!  See you there Barons!

Spring gram sales end tomorrow, March 31st.  Grams are $3 and include a card, a lei, and a song performed by our very own string orchestra members. Buy some from any orchestra member!

Baron Baseball is having a Dine Out tomorrow night at Lamppost Pizza beginning at 5:00pm and will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts again this week on Friday at 3:20pm.

March Madness continues this week in the gym at lunch!

The Barber City Women’s Club of Westminster is awarding three $1,000 scholarships for the 2015/2016 school year. To qualify, you must be a woman who lives in Westminster or Midway City and have applied as a full time student at a vocational school, community college, or 4 year university. The deadline isApril 30th. You can pick up your application at the career center.

Morning announcements for Friday, March 27th, 2015:  

Congratulations to the Varsity Song Competition team! They competed at USA Nationals last Friday and made it to the finals on Sunday. The girls did an amazing job and took third place! Great job ladies and congrats on a very successful season. Your hard work and dedication definitely paid off!

The Barons Varsity Softball got a great win vs Ocean View with a score of 3-0. Megan Craft pitched a great game and gets the win, Audrey Lansdown gets player of the game!

The Lady Barons play Rancho Alamitos in a double header on Saturday here at home.

The JV baseball team beat Edison by the score of 8 to 2 on Wednesday. The Barons were led by a dominate performance by sophomore Isaac Campbell, who pitched a complete game and only allowed 4 hits.

Congratulations to the Freshman Baseball Team for their 8 to 2 victory over Edison. An outstanding pitching performance by Grant Salamon who held the Edison offense to 1 run on just 4 hits. The Baron offense was led by Jake Bitzer who had three hits and 2 RBI’s and Conrad Villafuerte who drove in three Baron runs with two hits.

The FVHS Surf Team had another CCSA competition last weekend. John Hoyt and Eric Tello had stellar 1st place finishes, followed closely by Delaney Millican with a 2nd place in her heat, and Riley Anderson and Nathan Davis with strong 3rd place finishes. Great job FVHS Surf Team.

FVHS Grad Night committee will be having a work day tomorrow, March 28th from 9:30-12:30.  Seniors can earn volunteer hours, parents are welcome to help out as well!  Bring gloves and light masks, and meet us at the storage bins near the school tennis courts.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Spring Grams are on sale for only $3 in front of the cafeteria today at lunch. Send your favorite teacher or friend a card, a lei, and a song performed by our very own string orchestra members. Grams will be handed out on Friday, April 3 in periods 1-4. Last day to turn in grams is March 31.

Fashion Club is still looking for guys to model in their upcoming fashion show. You will be modeling clothes from Active and Thrift Stores. You can find the link to fill out an application online on their social media’s @fvhsfashion. All applications are due Monday morning at 9am.

Morning announcements for Wednesday, March 25th, 2015:       

Congratulations to Seniors Christian Warloe and Langa Tran who have been named Fountain Valley’s CIF Student-Athletes of the Year. Christian and Langa were chosen based on their GPA’s, extracurricular activity and sports participation. Both Christian and Langa earned the highest cumulative GPA’s of all varsity athletes over their 4 years at FVHS.

Congratulations to the Baron’s Swim Team for their outstanding win over Marina yesterday in the first league meet of the season. Each division out swam Marina with an overall combined total score of 649 to 304. This is a follow up to the teams outstanding win at the Mt. Sac HS Winterfest a couple weeks ago where the Varsity & JV divisions won overall points score beating 31 other schools and 1500 swimmers. Great way to start the season!

Morning announcements for Monday, March 23rd, 2015:       

Congratulations to the Dance team for a great job at The USA National Dance Competition this past weekend.  All teams worked very hard and gave excellent performances.  The medium hiphop routine placed 3rd and character placed 5th. Cheyenne Piepmeyer placed 2nd in drill downs and made it to the top 10 in her solo category.  Way to go dance team!!!

Congratulations to the varsity baseball team on their double header win versus La Habra 11 to 3 and 18-1. The Barons came back after a tough 1-0 loss to Marina on Friday. The Barons pitching held LaHabra to 4 runs on the day. The offense scored 29 runs and had 31 hits on the day. Willie Aguilar was 7 for 10, had 5 RBI’s, scored 5 runs and had 4 stolen bases. Justin Mazzone added 6 hits and had 4 RBI’s and Wyatt McGinnis had two hits. Tripp Aversa threw 3 innings of scoreless baseball and added 3 hits on the day. Danny Cancino pitched 4 innings to earn his first victory. The Barons play Edison on Wednesday at home. Come out for some exciting Sunset League baseball.

After a tough loss to Marina on Friday, the Freshman Baseball team bounced back with two victories on Saturday.  A 5 to 4 victory in game one over La Habra was secured behind the pitching of Michael Piepmeyer.  Michael pitched three scoreless innings allowing only one hit.  The Freshman team erupted for 13 runs against Lakewood behind Noah Amenta’s three hits. J D Norris, Jake Bitzer, and Grant Salamon added two hits each in the victory that improved the teams record to 7 and 1.

Varsity volleyball made some huge strides in this weekends OC Varsity tournament.  Luke Jacobsen, Will Thibodeau, and Hunter Todd played really well.  The freshmen team had a great tournament finishing 3rd in the Surf City Classic making it out of pool and in to the gold division where they lost to the # 1 seed and eventual tournament champions, Long Beach Poly.  Tristan Friend played great and carried the team through the entire tournament.  Tomorrow night we are at home against San Clemente.

Morning announcements for Friday, March 20th, 2015:       

The track teams competed at the Redondo Nike Invitational last weekend.  The girls team was dominant.  Natalie Grohman finished first in the 800 meter dash running a state leading time of 2 minutes and 14 seconds.  Davina Pham was 7th in the 110 hurdles, and Amanda Torchia was 5th in the triple jump and eighth in the high jump. The girls 4×400 relay team continues to impress finishing first. The team was composed of Natalie Grohman, Annelise Doerr, Mistina Gonzales and Jennifer Nguyen. The girls team is currently ranked 7th in Orange County.  The boys were led by an impressive double by Dakarai Barnett finishing second in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump. Elias Ghazlani continued his strong season with a personal best time in the hurdles, and Nick Malone ran terrific sprint times on two relay teams.

Congratulations to the boy’s varsity golf team for their victory over Roosevelt. The Barons swept the series by beating them by 7 shots. The Barons were led by juniors Chris Feltman and Jesse Mooney. Way to go Barons!

Congratulations to the varsity baseball team for their 3 to 1 win against La Mirada. The Barons got another great pitching performance, this time it was Marc Tucker who gave up 1 run and 2 hits overall. The Baron offense was led by JT Navarro who contributed with 3 hits, two of them doubles and Willie Aguilar added two hits. The Barons open league play today at Marina at 315. The Barons will begin to defend their Sunset League title. The baseball team would like to thank the staff and students for coming out to support them.

There will be a Saturday School tomorrow morning from 7:30 until 11:45am.  Come to the cafeteria with your student ID card, four hours worth of homework and a book to read.

Hey Barons!  Looking for a job but don’t want to leave campus?  Well come on over to the Cafeteria.  We will have morning and lunch time shifts available soon and hoping to carry on to the 2015-16 school year.  Seniors need not apply.

Come and help volunteer at School Beautification tomorrow morning from 8:00 a.m. to noon!  Be sure to sign in near Supervision.

Seniors, if you are going to OCC, you could be awarded at least $500 for applying for the Shirley Jane Brooke Scholarship offered for future OCC students. To apply, you must have at least a 2.5 GPA and be attending OCC fall semester 2015.  Students who have been a student government officer, club officer, or student representative for a campus-wide committee can also apply for a ASOCC Future Leaders Scholarship.  Scholarship applications can be picked up at the career center.

Congrats to Fountain Valley’s Virtual Enterprise company McFly Hoverboards for placing 3rd in Innovative Company, and honorable mentions in video commercial and Elevator Pitch at the Bay Area Trade Fair.  Great job to all of the participants and good luck in San Diego!

Hey Barons! Global Citizens is hosting a drive for school supplies in 4th period English classes. All supplies collected will be donated to a low income tutoring center in Costa Mesa called Someone Cares. The class who donates the most will receive a doughnut party.

Barons, if you have picked up an application to model in the upcoming fashion show please return your filled out application to room 248 as soon as possible.

Morning announcements for Monday, March 16th, 2015:       

10th graders – please remember that you are taking the CAHSEE test tomorrow and on Wednesday.  If your period 3 teacher is Baratti, Silvertooth, Kral, LaFramboise, Lawler, or Nelson, you will take the test with them.  For all other 10th graders, if your last name starts with A through Estrada, you will test in the cafeteria.  If your last name is Fahrmeier through Z, you will test in the gym.  Please bring ID and be in line no later than 7:45 am for check-in.

Varsity softball went 2 and 3 in the Mohave Tournament of Champions with a big comeback win in the last game vs Copper Hills.  Barons trailed 6-1 in the 5th before they broke the game open with a 5 run inning.  In the 6th inning Maddie Primrose’s sacrifice fly was the game winner and Taylor Golden’s 2 run homer sealed the win.  Solid pitching performance by freshman Sara Johansen.  It was a great team effort!!

Congratulations to the Dance Team for their accomplishments at the CATDT State Competition this weekend!!!  The small hip hop team placed 5th, Lyrical placed 4th and Cheyenne Piepmeyer placed 2nd in drill downs. The jazz team earned 2nd place and the Character Team won first place State Champions!!  Great job dancers and good luck at this weekends’ USA National Competition!!

Congratulations to our Pep Squad!  JV took 4th place overall at the Best of the West Competition yesterday, Great job ladies!  Also, Varsity had a great weekend, they took first place this Saturday at the Sharp State Championship at Knott’s Berry Farm & were Best of the West Champions on Sunday. Way to go girls!

Morning announcements for Friday, March 13th, 2015:       

Congratulations to the men’s track team for defeating Canyon High School with a score of 75 to 56.  FV also beat Yorba Linda High School 88 to 48.  The girls team was equally successful beating Canyon 82 to 53 and Yorba Linda 69 to 67.

Next up for the Barons is the Redondo Nike Invitational today and tomorrow.

The JV baseball team beat Ocean View high school by the score of 16-0 on Wednesday.  Pitchers Isaac Campbell and Rodger Gonzalez combined for a 3 hit shutout and the FV offense, led by Nick Taylor with 2 extra-base hits, exploded for 16 runs.

Congratulations to the Freshman Baseball team for their 7 to 2 victory over Ocean View.  J D Norris had a huge day getting three hits and scoring 2 runs. Michael Klug had a big day as well driving in the first two runs with a double. He also led the pitching by striking out 4 of the 8 batters he faced.  The Barons are still undefeated in their first 5 games this season.

Congratulations to the varsity boys golf team for their win over Roosevelt High School. The Barons were led by senior captain Joey Huynh who shot an even par 35. Way to go Barons and keep it up!

Morning announcements for Monday, March 9th, 2015:     

Congratulations to the Freshman Baseball team for their double-header sweep of Capo Valley on Saturday.  Robert Ellard’s squeeze brought home the winning run in the 3 to 2 win in game one. Great pitching performances by Alex Rostomian and Nathan Wilson.  Evan Mak squeezed home the winning run in game two that gave the Barons a 2 to 1 victory.  The winning pitcher Grant Salamon didn’t allow a hit in three innings.  The Freshman Baseball team is now undefeated in four games to start the season.

Please come out tomorrow at 3:00pm and support the varsity baseball team as the Baron’s play Pacifica HS in the 3rd round of the Loara Tournament.

The track team started the season strong while competing at the Sunset League Relays.  Dakarai Barnett won the long jump and triple jump.  Galyn Nash and William Hua were on winning distance relays, and Kasey Leong finished second in the pole vault.  The girls were equally successful and were led by Natalie Grohman, Annelise Doerr, Mistina Gonzales, and Jennifer Nguyen who won the 4×400 relay running 3 minutes and 59 seconds, one of the fastest times in the state so far. Julienne Chiang had a big improvement in long jump finishing with a 16 foot 9 inch jump, and hurdlers Amanda Torchia, Davina Pham, Natalie Huynh, and Ashley Masuda won the shuttle hurdle relay. The day concluded with Megan Pollick winning the pole vault.  Great job!

Barons!   It’s coming…The Voice of Fountain Valley!   Don’t miss this first annual solo singing competition – THIS Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. in our Gym.    The top 50 have been announced and the top 25 are set to sing for your votes!    The night will be super exciting as our contestants will be judged through 3 rounds before someone is ultimately announced as The Voice of Fountain Valley.   The audience will play a big role in determining the winner, so come hear great music and cheer our contestants on!!!!   Kimberly Cole, a current pop star and also a former Baron will be a guest judge and giving a special performance.   There will also be plenty of great food, drinks and desserts for the breaks between rounds.   Tickets are $5 for general admission and $8 for premium seating behind the judges!    Buy tickets at the door but arrive early for best seats!

The dance team was VICTORIOUS at the CADTD competition this past weekend!!

They earned 1st place in the Jazz, Character, and Co-ED Hip Hop divisions and they placed 2nd in  Large Hip Hop and Lyrical and 3rd for Small Hip Hop.  Our soloist’s also shined – Cheyenne Piepmeyer placed 3rd, Dezerae Jackson placed 2nd and Sarah Funasaki placed 1st in their respective categories.  Sarah was also 1st place runner up for overall 12th grade Miss Dance Soloist.   And there’s more, Cheyenne Piepmeyer won first place in the Drill Down event at the end of the competition and the FVHS Dance Team was given the Spirit Award for the day!!  Great accomplishments by all teams and dancers!!

Congratulations to the BBN for winning Student Television Network’s Broadcast Excellence Award for the entire western region. The BBN staff will be traveling to San Diego in April to participate in a training conference and to find out if they win the national award. Congratulations to the JV Boys Golf team for their impressive play at the Ayala Tournament this Monday.  The team finished tied for 6th place, led by Duong Tran with a 79, which was the 9th lowest round out of 101 players.  Brian Cao also played well shooting an 85.  The team also won their first non league match yesterday against Esperanza, led by Brian McNiff’s 43….Keep up the great work Barons!

Congratulations to boys volleyball on their opening win against Orange Lutheran!   After being down 2 games to none the Baron’s stormed back to win 3 straight behind the great play of senior Luke Jacobsen, junior, Will Thibodeau, sophmore’s Timmy Ho, Matt Geimenhardt, Cody Newsome, Jake Loudenback, Luke Davis, and freshmen Brandon Crowe and Mitchell Bollinger!

Congratulations to the staff of Baron Banner, our school newspaper. The paper took 2nd place Best in Show in all of Orange County for both their newspaper and their websiteBaronNews.com. And in a write-off competition over the weekend Ashley Le won first place in news photography, Claire Pritchard placed 3rd in feature writing, Heather Carr, Caitlyn Pham, and Heather Kim also placed in their categories. Celine Hoang received an honorable mention. Great job Baron Banner! Thanks for your thorough and quality coverage of Fountain Valley High School!

With 178 teams competing at last weekends Masters Wrestling tournament, your Fountain Valley Barons finished in 7th place as a team, qualifying 3 individuals to the state meet. Congratulations to Andrew Morgan for placing 2nd, Ben Madrid who placed 3rd, and Stone Escobedo who placed 4th. Each of them are 2-time state qualifiers and Morgan is a returning state placer. Wish them luck as they head into next weeks’ prestigious, California State Wrestling tournament. GO BARONS!

A huge congratulations to our Pep Squad for some big wins this weekend. Our Song team rocked it and took first place at CADTD on Saturday and placed second at King of the Bleachers on Sunday!   Our Varsity Cheer team came out on top at their competition at Estancia on Sunday with a first place win. They also earned the judges award. Great job ladies!
