On Thursday, the varsity Lady Barons soccer team lamentably fell short against the Huntington Beach Oilers with an uneasy score of 1-2. They fought their hardest through the unforgettably close game but unfortunately ended with yet another win for the Oilers.
The game started out with a goal scored by senior Kylee Wilson. The girls could foresee a defeat of the Oilers if they used their ability to communicate and pass the ball. Which thus made the players become cocky.
The girls used striking passes in order to move the ball closer to the goal. Putting up a good fight, the teammates ran hard and strong. They had many opportunities and attempts to score but, they, however, could not after their first goal.
During halftime, the head coach gave them excessive words of encouragement which enforced the players to push on and attempt to triumph in the end.
The second half began looking up as goal attempts from the Oilers were shot down. Goalkeeper, senior Kiana Flores, with the help of her teammates, performed an outstanding job of blocking the ball from the shots. However, the Oilers resulted in scoring a goal early in the second half to tie score 1-1.
The crowd roared wild as the ball traveled across the field and near the various goals. Both teams became more and more aggressive midway into the second half. The Barons fought their absolute hardest and yeared for another point to regain the lead.
With 15 minutes left in the game, the suspense and intensity level shot up as the Oilers attempted countless shots but failed due to Flores’ blocks.
With three minutes to spare, the Oilers broke the tie with a goal that regrettably crushed the spirits and hopes of the Barons.
Even with two minutes left, the game was over and left the lady Barons unhappy. Nevertheless, the girls did not lack the determination or teamwork that caused them their first goal.
