On Tuesday, the Barons varsity girls’ golf team shot an impressive overall score of 194-236 against Laguna Beach High School, allowing them to maintain their high standing in the Sunset League ranks. Currently they are ranked second just behind formidable Corona del Mar High School, the newest school to join the league, and ahead of Huntington Beach High School, who won the title of Sunset League champions last year.
The away game took place at Ben Browns Golf Course, a serene nine-hole course lined with trees next to the Aliso Canyon and Wood Canyon. Despite not being able to practice their shots on a driving range before the match, the Barons were ready to go into the game.
“We didn’t let the thought of no warmup get into our gameplay,” said junior Misty Le.
The team ultimately played well all-around and for them, it was an expected win.
“The game didn’t give off any competitive vibes. It was a great day for all players. We didn’t feel surprised about our win because we were confident in our solid team,” said Le.
Le shot a score of 32, assisted by a birdie shot from the opposite side of a hole. Freshman Madison Le had several tricky par-saves which gave her the second lowest individual score of 33 and junior Anh Nguyen had the third best score of 41 with her long putts.
The team has eight wins so far and will strongly head into their next match next Tuesday against Newport Harbor at 3:30 p.m.
