On senior night, the girls’ varsity volleyball defeated the Marina Vikings with a phenomenal final score of 3-0 for their final home match of the season.
Marina took the lead in the first set but the Fountain Valley Barons quickly caught up as the Barons took the next few points, until they reached a tie of 4-4. The Barons kept their streak going, gaining the upper hand until Marina finally started to catch up. By the end of the first set, girls’ varsity won the first round with 25-14.
In the second set, Fountain Valley took the lead against the Vikings and withheld Marina’s attempt to regain their points as the Barons led the scoreboard with 11-6 by the first time-out.
Marina started advancing with their own points, but the Barons kept themselves ahead of their opponents. Although the score was closer than the last set, the Barons took their second game 25-18.
Despite the small chance at winning, the Vikings caught up slightly with the Barons in the third set, where the Barons stumbled slightly against Marina, despite gaining the first point. For a while, Marina kept in the lead with Fountain Valley gaining closely behind with some ties.
The Barons took the lead again halfway through the third set until they remained ahead of the Vikings. Marina trailed close behind but ultimately lost the set with a final score of 25-20.
“I felt our team did a good job connecting and communicating,” said sophomore Juliette Bokor. “Playing with girls that all love each other makes it easy. I also think we had a good energy tonight, both the court and the bench were cheering and supportive.”
