In his first year in Baron Banner, sophomore Shayan Abbasi joined Baron Banner due to his love for journalism.
“When I go into my future job I would like to employ elements of the writing abilities I found and learned here,” Abbasi said.
He joined Baron Banner as a writer, excited to enhance his writing abilities and to get better at writing articles. He is most interested in writing news articles.
“I like being able to write about important stuff—current events—that’s going on and being able to communicate that to the reader,” Abbasi said. “I think that’s a really invaluable thing.”
Before going to Fountain Valley High School (FVHS), Abbasi went to school at Irvine Middle School and Ethan Allen Elementary School.
“I transferred to FVHS because of a better student culture,” Abbasi said.
Abbasi is interested in majoring in a journalism adjacent course, such as political science, as he would like to work for the top news agencies like NBC and CBS as a political reporter. His dream school is to attend University of California, San Diego (UCSD) as UCSD is a top six school for political science.

Abbasi’s passions outside of school are going to concerts, watching T.V. and hanging out with friends, however, his main passion is baseball.
“I really like baseball for some odd reason,” Abbasi said. “Even though lots of people think it’s boring, I just love the analytics, the sport and everything about it.”
When he was younger, Abbasi used to play baseball, basketball and football. However, he did not keep up with those sports.
His role models are his parents, who immigrated from Iran in search of better opportunities.
“They worked really hard to just immigrate like 20-30 years ago,” Abbasi said. “They worked really hard to establish a place here and work hard to get a house and provide for us. I really look up to them.”
While Abbasi describes himself as a little introverted, he is hardworking and really passionate about achieving his goals.
Abbasi’s hard-working attitude will truly pave the way for success in his future.
