From being on the swim team to starting a club of her own, junior Myra Chen does it all. Chen joined Baron Banner in hopes of enhancing her writing through journalism.
Since English is one of Chen’s better subjects, it’s no surprise that she applied to be a writer. Chen looks forward to writing lifestyle or feature articles, and maybe even a little bit of opinion. One thing Chen wants to gain in Baron Banner is improving her public speaking because it’s a valuable skill to have in the future.
“I feel like I’m better at writing about topics that I’m passionate about, like movies,” she said.
Baron Banner is not the only thing in Chen’s schedule; she is also an avid member of Fountain Valley High School’s swim team. She is involved in clubs such as Icing Smiles and DBC: Around the Corner Books, which makes little free libraries and drops them off around neighborhoods.
For Chen, being involved in and outside of school is a major factor that shapes her identity and personality. She describes herself as someone shy, practical, and organized in everything except daily life. As a result, Chen likes to follow a schedule tailored to her and what she needs to get done.
“I like to have a routine for things that I do. It’s very structured…[and] I don’t start homework unless it’s a good time, like if it’s 8:19, I’ll wait until 8:30 to start,” Chen said.
As for the future, Chen looks forward to working in business finance or law because those are the jobs recommended for ISTJ MBTI’s. She is currently taking business/criminal law and used to dream of going into medicine after watching “Grey’s Anatomy.”
“I base all of my future plans on the show that I’m watching. I want to go into business because of How to Get away with Murder,” she said.
Aside from the work Chen manages to juggle on her plate, she likes to relax by watching movies and TV shows. A few of her favorites include: “Gilmore Girls,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Stranger Things,” “Light the Night” and “Money Heist.” Adding on, Chen adores Selena Gomez for her music, vibe and acting.
Chen is also an aspiring daredevil and wants to try bungee jumping and skydiving in the future.
“I actually like heights, which is really weird. I like putting my life on the line and gambling before I get old and can’t move,” Chen said.
Chen’s ability to manage her work and social life is something that makes her capable and available for Baron Banner.
