As his high school years wind down, senior Kiet Phan embarks on his first year as a staff member for Baron Banner. Being a part of Baron Banner is no walk in the park, but there are few people who could embrace the challenge better than Phan.
While he is serious about his future, he also recognizes the importance of taking a breather once in a while. Between classes and extracurriculars, he believes that high school students need to relax, have fun and realize that immersing themselves into their studies isn’t the only path to success that’s available.
“You only have four years of high school. I used to think that I needed to work so hard but, realistically, you don’t,” said Phan. “Mental health is a very important thing and stressing out, getting three hours of sleep at a very young age, will probably hurt you permanently. Have fun!”
Phan, a real go-getter, is the type of person where, whether it be challenges that come from circumstance or his own initiative, he chooses to face them head-on and usually sees an opportunity within them to grow. Oftentimes, he pushes himself to do something new and interesting.
“I joined Baron Banner because I wanted to do something different senior year. I was in track for two years and things were getting a little stale. It felt like I was going through a routine every day so I wanted to do something new,” Phan said. “Baron Banner is just completely out of my comfort zone.”
Apart from track, Phan has played a number of other sports like soccer, volleyball and basketball, some of which he’s better at than others. He also enjoys going bowling with his friends on occasion and Postmate-ing himself various types of food.
As a talented photographer, Phan is sure to be a great addition to the Baron Banner team. He would like to keep his grades up, prepare for college, and have fun this upcoming school year. Wherever life decides to take him after graduation, his characteristic enthusiasm, upbeat attitude and relentless passion will undoubtedly set him apart from the rest and take him far.
