If you were to scroll across junior Angie Nguyen’s camera roll, you’d find more sunsets, wildflowers and winding trails rather than selfies. Whether you find her on a beach with her digicam or collaborating with other members of her various clubs, Nguyen always goes all out.
Her creativity first found a home in Baron Banner, where she discovered a love for not just snapping photos, but for capturing the stories within them.
“I really like photography,” Nguyen said. “I really like how [hands-on] Baron Banner is—how ‘in the scene it is’—it’s exciting.”
But Nguyen’s passions don’t stop with a point-and-shoot camera. Outside of journalism, she’s been a dedicated member of the Icing Smiles Club since her freshman year and now serves as treasurer. While she may be the one balancing the numbers and counting treats, it’s the friendships that really add up.
“I like when [the club members] come together and bake at someone’s house,” Nguyen said. “I like baking, and I like baking with people, so I feel it’s just the perfect club for me.”
Looking ahead, Nguyen is ready to zoom in on her future—and it’s one framed by a courtroom in New York.
“I’ve always wanted to be a lawyer … since fifth grade,” Nguyen said. “Obviously, it’s kind of boring, but I like how you can defend people … proving that you’re right, because I hate when things are unfair.”
While justice is her long-term focus, she admits the motivation comes with a hard-earned smile: it’s not just about fairness, but proving she’s right. According to Nguyen, she’s “always right.”
“Go big or go home,” Nguyen said. “It’s kind of hypocritical of me, because I do a lot of projects and never finish it … but if you put your all [into it], you’ll get a better reward.”
