Senior Emma Nguyen has been a valued member of the Baron Banner team for two years, joining Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) as a transfer student in 9th grade, quickly making her voice known. She stays informed about school and community issues through various media, including TV shows and the news. Nguyen has a genuine talent for making people feel welcome.
In addition to her commitment to staying informed, Nguyen actively participates in service opportunities and volunteers regularly, including her work in the Discovery Cube. As the president of the Orange County Chapter of Cancer, she plays a vital role in creating care packages for children with cancer.
“We try to promote community and to make sure that everyone feels really welcome when they come in,” Nguyen said.
Transferring to a large school like FVHS can be daunting, but Nguyen has found her voice and developed strong leadership skills.
“I was really a shy person, especially in my first year… I kind of learned throughout high school to find my voice and find how I can lead with it,” Nguyen said.
Even though she had her challenges, she also always had her support system. Her cherished stuffed animal, which she received from her uncle in Little Tokyo in fourth grade, has comforted her in stressful situations.
“The stuffed animal is my, like, support animal … like genuinely, if it was gone, I think I would cry,” Nguyen said.
Nguyen enjoys spending time with children and is passionate about supporting pediatric education, with plans to study public health in college. She loves reading romance, fantasy, and dystopian fiction in her free time. In addition to reading, Nguyen loves trying new foods and enjoying moments with her friends and family.
“I really like Kids, because I have a family history of cancer. So it’s kind of really important to me,” Nguyen said.
Nguyen’s dedication to her community and personal growth make her an incredible asset to the Baron Banner team.
