Hien Bui: Opinion Editor

Hien Bui

By Katie Vo

During the pandemic, she was cooking up a storm in her kitchen. Now with school being reopened, she plans on making the most of her senior year, all the while editing articles for Baron Banner.

Reading and writing came naturally to senior Hien Bui ever since she first learned the English language. However, as she entered high school, she inevitably found herself using her skills to get through classes rather than to foster her passions.

“Baron Banner really helped recapture what I liked about writing,” Bui said.

Baron Banner allowed her to connect with her community more deeply, on and off campus, finding a greater appreciation for the Fountain Valley High School culture and exploring the limitless bounds of her creative freedom.

As she reflects on her growth from a freshman to a senior, she notes how she can now see something and immediately think of writing an article.

Her favorite piece so far has been about productivity culture where she spreads the message that “we have our own identities outside of Canvas grades.”

The bi-weekly deadlines of journalism paired with a rigorous academic course load shaped Bui into becoming a mature and disciplined high schooler. In the past three years Bui has grown more confident, curious and creative.

She said “this class, this school and community gave me the opportunity to do all that.”

She encourages anyone to join Baron News as it opened up many possibilities in her life and guarantees that there’s always something interesting to learn.

After graduating, Bui sees herself majoring in either English or history and possibly attending law school.
