“Just be a good person, make sure everybody around you has a smile on their face and it’ll be a good time,” senior Jayden Nguyen said.
Nguyen set these inspiring words as a statement to live by as he makes an effort to influence everybody around him to have a great day and to plant a smile on their faces.
Nguyen, the sports editor of Baron Banner, earned his role not only for his commitment to improving his writing skills but also for his love for covering sports. However, his story of applying for this role is rather humorous.
“The application will always be funny to me. I think I was in Canada, and I was sitting on the floor somewhere…I didn’t even think it was submitted properly so I didn’t think I’d get in,” Nguyen said.
Ever since Nguyen was little, he has always had a passion for combat sports. Inspired by the pro-wrestling matches on TV and his uncle who used to wrestle in high school, he felt drawn to the sport.
Nguyen followed in his uncle’s footsteps and is now a member of Fountain Valley High School’s wrestling team. Although he has dealt with multiple injuries throughout his years of wrestling, this only encourages him to improve.
Other than sports, he is also a co-activities manager of the Chick-fil-A Leadership Club, and he is active in CSF and VSA. With these extracurricular activities, Nguyen believes that one should do what they’re passionate about, not because of the numbers that colleges look for.
When he’s not wrestling or busy with clubs, you might see him learning a song from one of his favorite movies, La La Land on his guitar, hanging out with friends or taking a stroll at the beach.
But how does he find his balance of enjoying the things he loves while dealing with academics?
“Something that has really helped me was studying in the afternoon until around 6 or 7 p.m .… and then leaving the rest of the night to enjoy with friends,” Nguyen said.
Nguyen is the perfect example of the word “kind” as he is always eager to help people and to make sure that everyone has a great time.
