As a first-year high school student, freshman Kailyn Huynh dives headfirst into campus culture through journalism, with meaningful words and art to share across the coming years of her high school career.
With an interest in writing and photography, Huynh plans to make an impact through her experiences. While she does photography as a hobby, her writing is just as important to her, whether it’s writing in her free time or for academics, Huynh considers focusing on literature in the future.
“One of the things I’ve written that’s probably one of my best pieces was a memoir in seventh grade about my mother’s experience traveling from Vietnam,” Huynh said.
Huynh takes an honest approach to her work, social life and school, believing that it is a place to share experiences and knowledge. She credits this as a reason for joining Baron Banner.
She heard about the school’s newspaper and online publication through a friend and went out of her way to talk to teachers to learn more about it. It is clear that her drive as a student, although new to the high school experience, stands out.
“I would say I’m a perfectionist, most of the time, and I push myself to do the best I can,” Huynh said.
Huynh’s artistic interests are not limited to photography. Although she enjoys scenic photography and videography, she also likes to sew.
“Mainly, I’ve just made felt creations for other people,” Huynh said.
Additionally, Huynh’s hobbies mainly pertain to the art she is interested in; she enjoys basketball and cooking, and occasionally finds time to watch her favorite animated films.
“My favorite movie is Ratatouille or any [Studio] Ghibli movie,” Huynh said.
As a freshman, Huynh is excited to meet people, gain exposure and contribute to the news within the school and community.
“I just hope to help others through my experiences, and share the knowledge I have,” Huynh said. “I want to change people using words and art.”
