Lauren Hyland: Lifestyle Editor

Lauren Hyland

What is something journalism, art and soccer have in common? They are all beloved interests of Baron Banner’s lifestyle editor, Lauren Hyland.

Hyland’s involvement in Baron Banner stems from her passion for writing and media studies.

“I really love writing; I definitely want to take that into my future,” Hyland said.

Now, returning to the class for her second year, Hyland is motivated to be the voice for all students, including herself.

“What kept me interested in [Baron Banner] was having an outlet to talk about whatever I want,” Hyland said. “I want to focus on doing more opinion and lifestyle pieces.”

Hyland is a creative person at heart. Alongside her love for journalism, she enjoys spending her day immersed in the canvas of her paintings. Most of her art pieces take inspiration from her mundane, everyday life.

She also has an interest in musical instruments, especially the guitar. Her favorite songs to play are “Vampire Empire” by Big Thief, “Stranger” by Olivia Rodrigo and “Rivers and Roads” by The Head and The Heart. You would know she has a trained eye for the arts as she is also an avid movie viewer who adores 2000s classics like La La Land and 10 Things I Hate About You

But, art and literature aren’t the only things Hyland is good at. She joined Fountain Valley High School’s soccer team her freshman year and played for Culture Football Club’s team in her junior year of high school. This year, Hyland plans on being a part of both soccer teams.

“I love soccer because of the challenge it gives me. It encourages me to compete not only with others but with myself,” Hyland said. “Beyond competition, I just find it fun, it helps take away any outside stress when I just focus on playing.”

Anyone who has met Hyland can agree that she has a welcoming charm to her presence. She is an outgoing person who adores hanging out with her friends. She is never afraid to speak her mind, yet she always speaks with consideration for others. Her characters reflect her motivations as she values freedom to express her creativity.
