Whether she is binging movies on Netflix, listening to SZA or strolling along the beach, sophomore Pham Tran puts her heart and soul into whatever she does.

Joining Baron Banner this year to further her design skills and connect with the student body, Tran’s love for curating her community transcends the academic setting.

“I get inspiration from all the people around me. I’ve met so many great people, and all of them have some things that I can learn from,” Tran said. “I think it’s important to make those connections because [they] help me create a positive network around me. So whenever I need something, they can always be there for me.”

Empowered by the energy of those around her, Tran makes sure to pass on her love to those less fortunate as well. As a core member of the Cultural Bridge Program, Tran dedicates her time to helping elementary and middle school students in China learn English every week. Through curated curriculums that she personally develops, Tran works with her team to spread opportunities while fostering worldwide communities.

Her passion for new experiences doesn’t stop there. Joining the cross country team for the first time this year, Tran’s journey towards self-improvement has definitely shown through – not only in her mindset but in her achievements as well.

Despite her limited time on the team, her favorite memory so far has been the race against Cerritos High School and the time she spent with her team afterward.

“Even though I didn’t win a medal, compared to my pace when I first joined, I’ve improved a lot and that’s what makes me happy,” Tran said.

Amidst her busy schedule, Tran does not forget to take time for herself. Whether it is window shopping at the mall or curled up watching her favorite shows, relaxing gives Tran a sense of peace and security away from life’s troubles.

Citing XO Kitty as her comfort series, Tran especially resonates with the main character’s journey to discovering herself and the world around her after embarking on a solo adventure.

“[Whenever I’m at the beach], I feel like there are so many beautiful things that exist in this world that I haven’t discovered,” Tran said. “Also, I think that in life, [people] should spend time and [discover] what they like the most, then pursue that.”

If you are lucky enough to meet her, you will find Tran living in the present, always seeking new ways to grow and connect with those around her.

“I want people to actually take high school as an opportunity to explore themselves and try things they have never done before — something beyond their level at the time,” Tran said. “I would also say to open up to people, as high school is all about the connections and networks that you create and maintain for life.”
