As a junior, Sophie Vu is ready to face what many consider the most challenging year of high school. She has a lot on her plate trying to balance her class schedule, a wall of AP classes, and many extracurricular activities. However, Vu faces these obstacles with great determination and optimism.

Vu’s passion for graphic design was the reason that prompted her to join Baron Banner. As a designer, she hopes to create visually stunning social media graphics and newspaper layouts that will inspire and amaze others.

“It’s that feeling when you see something that just catches your eye or makes you want to have that product or like make you want to join that organization,” Vu said. “That’s the impact I want to have. Whatever it is that I may be doing as a graphic designer.”

Outside of her academic endeavors, Vu is a part of the Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) girls’ varsity tennis team. She started varsity her freshman year, which means this will be her third year on the varsity team.

Along with her dedication to tennis, Vu finds great joy in volunteering for the school and the local community. She volunteers for most school events and the Boys and Girls Club in Huntington Valley.

When she isn’t busy with school or extracurricular activities, she enjoys listening to K-pop and watching Korean dramas in her free time.

Vu also loves eating all kinds of foods and enjoys Asian and Mexican cuisine. She has a distinct fondness for savory and sweet foods too.

“I like Asian food because I grew up eating it and like the flavor palate. I also really like savory things and a little sweet,” Vu said. “Some foods I like include steamed crab, popcorn chicken, and noodles.”

With the entirety of junior year ahead of her, Vu looks forward to making the most out of it.
