Senior Zachary Leach is off to the races in year four of his high school journey, but it isn’t just the final stretch for him — striving as a church volunteer, picking up new classes and making time to see friends are some of the moments that Leach is filling his senior year with.
“This year is more fun than [past] years. I have Ceramics, Physics, Baron Banner, AP English Literature and Composition and AP Statistics, on top of track,” Leach said. “Right now, I’m enjoying Baron Banner the most as we’re prepping for a lot of good things to happen this year and I can’t wait to see what this journey entails.”
As it is his first year in Baron Banner, he looks forward to learning the ways of article writing and photo taking.
Outside of class, you’ll find Leach practicing on the track and preparing for the season.
“I love doing the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles although not as much,” Leach said, highlighting his favorite events.
Leach is also a youth group leader in his church.
“I get to help out with kids ministry, [be] a leader to them and [volunteer] time every Wednesday,” Leach said.
Leach has been involved with volunteering for over six years. Not only is leading a way for him to connect with others, he gets to give back in a place that’s very close to him.
His biggest obstacle this year comes from his AP English Literature course, but he looks forward to continue shaping his reading skills.
“Reading is not my strong suit,” Leach said. “I can do a lot of good writing, but not a lot of good reading”.
Leach is peeking at attending the University of Kansas to continue his post-high school education in engineering.
