On May 5, the softball team took on Corona del Mar Sea Kings in a high-energy matchup that turned into one of the most exciting games of the season. In a night filled with huge offensive performances, momentum swings and emotional moments, the team secured a thrilling 19-16 victory. The game also served as senior night, making the win even more meaningful for the players, coaches, and fans in attendance. After the final out, the team gathered to celebrate graduating seniors Thalia Wilno, Ava Fernandez, Ariana Smith, Ella Kim, Taleen Apkarian, and Kileigh Villalobos for their dedication and contributions to the program throughout their high school careers.
The game began with Kayla Aguirre starting in the circle and helping the team settle in early. Defensively, the team came out with energy, including a standout quick throw from Kiki #23 that helped keep Corona del Mar from building momentum. The offense immediately responded in the bottom of the first inning. Kiki continued her strong start at the plate with a double that helped spark the team offensively. Soon after, Villalobos stepped up and launched a three-run home run, bringing excitement to the dugout and crowd early in the game. Another RBI single later in the inning added to the scoring, allowing the team to close out the first inning with a 4-0 lead.
As the game continued, both teams found offensive rhythm and the score quickly climbed. By the middle of the second inning, the lead had narrowed to 6-4 as Corona del Mar battled back and kept pressure on the defense. However, the home team continued responding with big hits of its own. Villalobos once again came through in a key moment, blasting another home run and helping extend the lead. The offense stayed aggressive throughout the game, keeping runners moving and consistently putting pressure on the opposing defense.
The third inning continued the offensive battle, with the score reaching 9-6 early before the team added even more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Big hits and timely RBIs allowed the offense to stay ahead despite Corona del Mar refusing to back down. By the end of the fourth inning, the team had built a 13-6 advantage, fueled largely by Villalobos’ incredible performance at the plate. She later added yet another home run, finishing the night with one of the most dominant performances of the season.
Villalobos was nearly unstoppable offensively, going 4-for-4 with 12 RBIs and multiple home runs. On a night dedicated to celebrating the seniors, she delivered a performance that perfectly highlighted her impact on the program. Her leadership, confidence, and ability to come through in big moments energized both her teammates and the crowd throughout the game.
Although Corona del Mar mounted a late comeback attempt and kept the pressure on until the final inning, the team managed to hold on and secure the 19-16 win. The victory capped off an emotional and memorable night filled with offense, excitement, and celebration. After the game, players, coaches, friends, and family honored the graduating seniors, recognizing not only their accomplishments on the field but also the hard work and commitment they brought to the team over the years. The combination of an exciting win and the senior night celebration made May 5 a night the team will not soon forget.
