Roaming Reporter: How do students feel about the loss of Bell Week?

By Heidy Tran

Occurring near the end of September every year, Bell Week is our school’s traditional spirit week celebrating the Bell Game against Edison High School. Due to our school’s football team dropping down a league, we are no longer able to compete against the Edison Chargers and fight for the Bell at our school’s biggest football game.

Let’s see what students think about the loss of our school’s tradition!

Minnie Le

“I think it’s kind of depressing because last year it was kind of the highlight of my first semester. [At] Bell Game, it gets really lively, and it’s the biggest football game [that] everyone really looks forward to. It kind of upsets me that we don’t have it anymore. The freshmen can’t experience it as [well],” junior Minnie Le said.

Chanelle Pham

“Honestly, I’m kind of really bummed out about it because last year when I went, it was really fun, and the whole experience is really great. So not having it this year is a little bit disappointing, and I really wish the school could bring it back,” junior Chanelle Pham said.

Keisyn Faletoi & Ziaire Casey

“When I think about Bell Week, it kind of sucks [how it’s gone] because it’s our last year. It was just really fun, just getting to play Edison and all that. But now that it’s gone, it’s kind of sad,” senior Keisyn Faletoi said.

“It’s pretty sad because I think the football team this year could have [beaten] Edison, but just the hype and [how] everything’s just gone, it’s pretty sad,” senior Ziaire Casey said.

Sarah Tenny, Alene Muhammed & Jasmine Draper

“I want Spirit Week. That’s sad. I like dressing up,” sophomore Sarah Tenny said.

“I’m kind of disappointed, honestly. I liked [Bell] Week, but I didn’t have many friends last year, so I didn’t have people to do it with. I was excited to get to do it this week with friends. And also, I didn’t attend the Bell Game, so you know,” sophomore Alene Muhammed said.

“Okay, that sucks. I wish we did have one, and I agree with those two,” sophomore Jasmine Draper said.

Jacob Nguyen

“It sucks personally because I’m on the football team, and it kind of sucks just not having that rivalry [with Edison High School] around. I do miss the spirit weeks. I miss when everyone would get hyped and ready for just one of the biggest events in the school year,” sophomore Jacob Nguyen said.

Jason Cao

“I hate it because it’s something to look forward to in the fall season, and we don’t have it anymore, so I’m upset. I miss hanging out with my friends at the Bell Game,” junior Jason Cao said.
