Debuting at the top of the charts, Adam Lambert’s most recent release, entitled Trespassing, features astonishing vocals, catchy tracks, and exciting lyrics. For the first time ever, one former American Idol forced another’s exit, as Lambert’s album seized the No. 1 spot, effectively kicking fellow Idol alum Carrie Underwood’s Blown Away to the curb. Lambert’s album is jam-packed with progress, and listeners can clearly tell the difference between this singer and the one who came in runner-up on American Idol so many moons ago.
The title track, also the lead-in, combines glam pop and reggae beats to compose its chorus. Lambert’s vocals come across as though he were singing a capella, with merely a drumbeat in the background to spur him onward.
Another notable song on the album, entitled “Better Than I Know Myself,” pulls listeners back to Lambert’s musical roots. When he began, listeners could clearly identify his niche in glammed-up pop rock music. In the past, he has been hindered by his vocal ability to sing in such a large range because it caused him to focus more on runs and other flashy lyrical tricks rather than channelling raw emotion into the song. However, it is rather nostalgic to hear Lambert sing a track such as this one, because it reminds listeners why they fell in love with him in the first place.
Uniquely, Lambert has both outstanding vocal ability and a remarkable stage presence. Having witnessed his performance live, it’s noticeable that he’s done little to perfect his voice in the album. While his showiness has sparked controversy in the past, his music never suffers. The pure energy and enthusiasm Lambert pours into every track entices listeners to tune in and pay close attention to the magnificence of his latest album.
