As field hockey season ends, Fountain Valley had a great success in making the Los Angeles Field Hockey Association play-offs.
Unfortunately FV lost to Harvard Westlake, 1-3 in their first game of play-offs. It was still a great game to watch as the Wolverines were the number one team in the league.
Varsity coach Allison Renth describes her first year of coaching for FV as “an honor…Making it to playoffs was a great way to end an exciting season.” Playoffs were a great improvement from last year and the Barons are willing to push harder next year and hope to go farther next season as well.
Captain Alyx Merickel (‘14) describes how she is happy with the team and overall how well they did, “I’m really proud to be captain and can’t wait for an awesome season next year!”
Winning exactly half of their league games, next year, the team will hopefully improve and be able to defeat Huntington Beach, a longtime rival and team that FV has yet to beat in many years.
However, this season’s games against Edison didn’t waver as with every other year, Fountain Valley gave it their all and tied the Chargers in an intense overtime game on the home field.
Coach Renth states, “As a first time coach, I couldn’t have asked for more. Way to go girls!” This applies strongly to the seniors who made up the majority of the field hockey’s defense and who will be graduating this year. Shout out to seniors Emily Brucelas, Elyssa Luman, Brie Foster, Allison Barrios, Mikendra Macy, and Natalie Ramirez.
