Last Tuesday Lady Barons softball had their final home game against the Marina Vikings. Since this was the last home game, it was Senior Night for our Lady Barons. The seniors included Victoria Ellard (‘14), Madi Weathers (‘14), Kelli Tatum (‘14), Randi Fehser (‘14) and Anna Alicia Marin (‘14). Unfortunately, our Lady Barons did not secure a victory on their Senior Night against the Vikings with the final score, 2-6.
Hope seemed lost during the third inning when the Vikings gained a 3 point lead against the Barons with their bases loaded three times around, thus scoring three times with singles.
During the fifth inning, the Barons were able to secure a point with the help of Taylor Golden (‘7), Ellard (‘14), and Tatum (‘14) with their single hits. Golden (‘17) was able to secure a point before the inning came to an end. However, the Vikings were also able to capture two more points, thus taking the lead even further due to the errors made by the Lady Barons.
In the sixth inning, the Barons managed to get the bases loaded for a chance to come back in this game. Unfortunately, only Golden (‘14) was able to score, making the score 2-5.
During the final and last inning, neither team was able to score any points, thus the score finalized, 2-5, the Vikings taking the victory on the Lady Barons’ Senior Night. The key player was Golden (‘17), earning 2 points for the Barons.
Although they had a disheartening loss, their joy could not be shattered because the seniors celebrated their final home game with their parents, and were recognized for their outstanding performance over their years in softball.
“My team played well and enjoyed our last home game,” said Ellard. “The energy was always up. The ceremony after was amazing and made each senior feel very appreciated. I’m extremely sad that it was my last home game ever as a Baron.”
“I know we didn’t win, but it was a game where we all played together as a family, and having teammates you can call sisters is better than any win in my opinion,” said Marin (‘14).
