Fountain Valley boys varsity tennis team played against Mira Costa High School in a preseason match and despite the boy’s best efforts they quickly fell behind and lost against the Mustangs.
Even though they lost against Mira Costa, the boys doubles pairs demonstrated skill against their opponents. Despite a rough start for the boys, each doubles pair was able to win close matches against their opponents.
The boys lost a majority of their games, but the few games that were won were close games where they were able to come on top with scores such as 7-5 and 7-6.
The boys attribute their loss mainly to the stellar teamwork from the Mustangs.
“Playing against Mira Costa was intimidating,” said player Ali Rehman (’16). “They played aggressive and had a lot of high-ranked players who work well together.”
Although they lost against Mira Costa the boys have not lost hope or motivation for the rest of their season.
“Playing against one of the top CIF teams was really rough, especially the first match,” said team captain Brandon Huynh (’16). “But afterwards we were able to recoup and play some close matches and even pick up a few.”
“We played our hardest and fought for every point we could,” said Rehman.
Fortunately the game was a preseason match, and the boys use their early matches as learning experiences before the actual season starts.
“We learn from our mistakes and have been working on them for the past week so that we can be ready for our season,” said Rehman.
