Tuesday afternoon, girls’ varsity tennis defeated Laguna Hills 15-3 in their fifth preseason game. The girls felt confident during their match after their victory against Villa Park last Thursday.
Both singles and doubles performed exceptionally, persevering and winning a majority of their matches. Outstanding performances were exhibited by senior Ivy Tran and sophomore Christy Chau, winning all three of their singles matches. Sophomore Jasmine Nguyen was able to steal the win for two of her three matches as well.
“I’m very excited and determined for this season. Today, we really proved ourselves that we are ready for the season,” said Tran.
Doubles No. 1 players, senior Charisse Vu and sophomore Kaylee Tran as well as No. 3 doubles partners freshman Nghi Trinh and sophomore Joanne Tran, dominated and came out victorious for all three of their matches. Doubles No. 2, senior Tina Nguyen and junior Kaitlin Kogami won one out of three of their matches.
The first round of sets started the game off with a score of 5-1, partners Vu and Kaylee were able to wipe the scoreboard 6-0. After the second set, the girls secured a victory with a score of 10-2 and ended the last set with a final score of 15-3. Meanwhile, junior varsity finished their games with an overall score of 17-1.
“Although our team this year is not as strong as it has been in past years, I believe that our hard work and determination will actually take us very far; not necessarily in terms of games and winning, but in terms of learning how to be more confident in ourselves and our abilities and how we can work together as a team by doing our own individual parts,” said Vu.
