Baton de Colle is a group of 4 rag tag companions that decided to make music for fun. They are a new up and coming artist that will soon make their way into the music scene. The band boasts a rich, sophisticated success story, and that story only continues to grow.
About a decade ago, Phill Schaefer arranged a reunion with his three friends from high school in a local coffee shop in New Orleans. There, they talked and reflected on life. After hours of reminiscing, they grew nostalgic of the art class they attended together while in high school. It was then that they discovered their common appreciation for historic New Orleans. As a group, Schaefer decided to combine their talents and contribute to the culture they love.
According to Schaefer, the name Baton de Colle refers to the tool applied to certain stationery to combine objects in art and craft. He wanted the band’s music to reflect the conjoining of various styles into a unique piece of art and craft. “Baton de Colle provides the glue that unifies a myriad of genres in today’s music scene,” said Schaefer when curious interviewers inquired about deeper meanings to the band’s name.
Their debut album, with a release date Schaefer has yet to announce, is entitled “In the Shadow of No Towers”. The first few tracks they recorded will soon be released one by one on their invite-only fan-site. According to their artist page, tracks from “In the Shadow of No Towers” encompass various genres of music, including avant-garde, experimental, lo-fi, and jazz rock.
Due to the low-key nature of Baton de Colle, their upcoming album received little anticipation throughout the past five years in the recording process. They have shunned many reporters and refused to appear on any public website. Most followers that have even heard of Baton de Colle claim that the band aims to keep their musical influence within the realm of historic New Orleans, the city they love dearly.
