At the end of each year, around the nation, millions are scrambling to get their New Year’s resolutions done so they can have a fresh start.
New Year’s, the oldest of all holidays, was established in 153 B.C. by a Roman mythical king named Janus to celebrate a new beginning and to forgive their enemies with the exchanging of gifts. Over the years, the holiday has been adapted by many cultures all over the world.
On campus, Barons are ready to make changes for 2013.
“My resolution is to try and understand other people’s perspectives more,” said Vi Kim Pham (‘15). “Sometimes when you talk to someone, you become so immersed in what you’re saying that you forget to consider how the other person might feel or how they view the topic.”
When asked how she was spending New Year’s Eve, Kimberly Do (’14) said, “I’m going over to my cousin’s house for our annual countdown…my resolution for this year is to smile more and just have more fun.”
Caroline Moore (’14) planned to attend a party and watch the Times Square broadcast. “My resolutions aren’t very specific this year, it’s just to try to be the best me that I can be in all areas of my life,” she said.
Kenny Nguyen (‘14) wanted “to launch a clothing brand before the end of 2013.”
With all of these resolutions already in mind, now the big question is: What is your New Year’s resolution?
My new year’s resolution is to be more fun and sassy if that is even possible! I also want to be very famous even though I’m already a star!
