ASB kicked off the school year with the annual Aloha Dance in the school gym, on Sat. night.
The Aloha Dance is held to welcome students back to school. The Aloha Dance is free for Freshmen to encourage their attendance.
Unlike previous years, a refreshments truck was available just outside the gym entrance for students to purchase snow cones. ASB also provided water for sale.
“I like that they had water and snow cones for sale because that was different than previous years,” said Ari Jacobsen (’15).
The turnout at the dance had a fair mix of all grade levels. Although most were dressed in luau attire, some freshmen were not aware that the dress code was casual.
“Some freshmen seemed really lost and looked way too formal at the dance with dresses,” said Katherine Nguyen (’17).
Inside the gym, there was an ongoing problem with the formation of mosh pits throughout the night. Officials threatened to cut the dance short if people kept forming the pits.
The DJ from N-Effects provided the music for the night, but his talents received mixed reception.
“The DJ was good but not great,” said Jacobsen. “I think they should go hear the DJ before they hire him.”
Nevertheless, most attendees appeared to enjoy themselves, and the dance got students excited for future school events.
“[It was] a good way to start the school year,” said Calvin Le (’16). “I’m pretty excited for the school year with football games and homecoming coming up, along with [other events].”
