November 2014 Announcements

Here are your morning announcements for Wednesday, November 19th:    

Congratulations to Lilia Vu for finishing in 14th place at the state golf championship. Lilia was the only Orange County golfer to compete at the event. Good luck at UCLA next year Lilia!

The Band went to Vegas this weekend and conquered all their rivals. They secured a Superior Rating, as well as taking every caption in the preliminary competition.  The evening performance was just as stellar and the band won the 1st Place Trophy with a score of 88.66, as well as taking Best Visual, Best Color Guard, and Best Percussion! Way to go Band! The band competes for the final time this Saturday at Ramona High School in Riverside at the S-C-S-B-O-A Championships! Best of skill band!

Attention all freshmen who have a UCLA study packet: Please make sure to return your survey interest forms to the box in the front office this week.  If you have any questions please see Mrs. Silvertooth in room 301.  Thanks!

There will be a swim team meeting on Monday November 24th, on deck at 11 a.m. Lunch will be provided.  The coaching staff will address everything about the upcoming season, from training groups to our competition schedule, and team events.

Calling all Freshman, have you submitted your hoodie order forms yet? December 1st is the last day to submit order forms to the Financial Office for the reduced price of $25. Starting December 2nd, Class of 2018 Hoodies will cost $30. This will be your only chance to get your hands on a customized Class of 2018 hoodie. Return your order form and payment to the Financial Office as soon as possible.

Hey seniors! The class of 2015 Baseball T-Shirts are ready for you. Remember your final year at FVHS with a commemorative T-shirt for only $15 if you order beforeDecember 5th. The order forms are in Senior English classes. Please return your order form to room 100 with the money attached. Let’s support the Senior Class and remember what it is to be a Baron For Life!!

All UC and Cal State college applications must be submitted by Sunday, November 30! Try to get them in on Thanksgiving, do not wait until the last minute.  Also if you are applying to a private college and using the Common Application make sure you go to Parchment.com and attach a transcript. Only private colleges require a transcript during the application process. If you have any questions regarding your applications see Ms. Wakeman in the Career Center this week.

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Red Cross is still collecting Toys for their Toy Drive!  Drop off a toy in your English Classes collection box!

Attention all freshmen, Freshman Commission will be holding a club meeting tomorrow, November 20th in room B-3.  Come out and support the class of 2018.

The FVHS Ronald McDonald House Club is continuing their Pop Tab drive through December 5th.  Pop tabs are being collected in your 3rd period classes, the class with most pop tabs will win a donut party. The donations make more of a difference than you would think, so please participate in this easy way to give help to others!

There is a Junior Commission meeting this Friday in room 301.

Hey Barons! The ping pong tournament continues TODAY at lunch! Come to the gym to cheer on your fellow Barons including Mr. Yarnton!

Congratulations to Erin Bola, her review of the play “As You Like It”, performed at Huntington Beach APA, was selected for publication.  Erin is leading a strong CAPPIES team this year.  Go CAPPIES!

Attention Barons – If you signed up for the Ping Pong tournament last week, the bracket is posted at the activities window! Games start TODAY in the gym at lunch! If you are not at the gym by 12:35 today, you will be disqualified, so be on time and don’t miss your game!

Seniors! It is college application “crunch time!” All UC and Cal State college applications must be submitted by Sunday, November 30! Congratulations to FVHS Roller Hockey on their sweeping win against Los Alamitos with a score of 10-2.Goals scored by Captain Brandon Ha and Assistant Captains Ian Bast and Diego Rivera !

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Congratulations to Golfer Lilia Vu for winning the CIF State Regional Championship! Lilia shot a 68, beating 127 of the best golfers in Southern California. Lilia has qualified for the State Championship which will be held Tuesday in Rancho Cucamonga. Way to go Lilia!

Congratulations to Novembers Rotary Most Improved Student of the Month, Tony Bui.

Any boys interested in playing for the golf team, there is a lunch meeting today in Coach Keyser’s room, room 107.

For two nights only, The Fountain Valley Advanced Theatre Class will present the dark comedy, The Hothouse by Harold Pinter.  Performances will be tonight andSaturday at 7pm in room 309.   Prices are $5 for students and teachers.  $10 for adults.  Don’t miss it.

There is one Saturday School this month.  Come to room 231, this Saturday, 11/15.  Saturday School starts promptly at 7:30am and ends at 11:45.  Bring your ID, your work and a book to read.

Field Hockey & Wrestling will be holding an E-Waste drive tomorrow from 9am – 2pm. Remember to bring your e-waste and Vet donation items to FVHS tomorrow!

Barons- are you a passionate musician? Is poetry your form of self-expression? If either of these describe you, come and perform in Fountain Valley’s very own “Coffee House Night,” put on by Senior Commission. Auditions for musical or poetic talent will be Monday the 17th and Friday the 21st, sign up in room 100. Auditions should be no longer than 5 minutes. It’s going to be a rad show, so don’t miss out on this great performing opportunity!

Attention all video/computer game players. There is a “Gaming Club” meeting in room 213 after school today. Please bring your laptop and/or video games to play with others every Friday after school. Contact Carolyn Tran or Mr. Lee in room 213 if you have any questions. See you there!

Congratulations to the Fountain Valley Theatre Students who participated in the Mission Viejo Role About Theatre Festival.  Michael Peters and Tyler Kohanek made it to the final rounds and Michael Peters was awarded 3rd place for cold readings.

There will be a meeting for any boys interested in playing for the golf team this Friday at lunch in Coach Keyser’s room, room 107.

There is one Saturday School this month.  Saturday School will be in room 231 this Saturday, 11/15 and starts promptly at 7:30am and ends at 11:45.  Bring your ID, your work and a book to read.

Summer 2015, Mrs. French will be leading a group collecting data on coral reef health in the Dominican Republic.  This is perfect for travelers, scientists, and those interested in having a unique experience to bring to light on your college application as a part of the Global Citizens club!  Come to a meeting today at lunch in room 213.

Are you interested in global issues like education, poverty, gender inequality, disease, malnutrition, and many others but more importantly would you like to have an impact both locally and globally to change these?  Then come to an informational meeting and see how you can help start the Global Citizens Club Friday November 14th in room 213 with Mrs. French.  Hope to see you there!

Thank you to our Mighty Barons Football team for a hard fought battle against Newport Harbor last Friday night and an exciting Football Season!  Barons for Life!

Attention all Freshman football players, Coach Fenton and Coach Kral will be holding a meeting at the start of sixth period at the Varsity Football Coach’s Office.

Last weekend the band competed against some of the best bands in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Texas at the Bands of America Regional Competition in Long Beach. The band had two great performances, and at the end of the night they were in 7th place out of 23 other bands!  Way to go FVRR!  If you still haven’t seen this award winning show your best opportunity isthis Wednesday night at Westminster High School, where the FVRR will perform at 8:15. We hope to see you there! Good luck Band!

Here are your morning announcements for Friday, November 7th:    

Congratulations to golfer Lilia Vu for advancing to the CIF State Regional Qualifiers.  Lilia shot a 77 to be one of 28 girls from Southern California to make it to the next round. Lilia will be playing in Lake Arrowhead on Thursday. Way to go Lilia.

Yesterday on the George Berg Freshman Field, the young Barons put a shellacking on the Newport Harbor Sailors 38-12.  Quarter back Josh Tellez, Christain Castro, Steven Amezcua, Sam Allcorn, Jevon Hill, Nathaniel Wight, Micheal Klug, Angel Chavalez, Adam Arganda, Jake Flores, Tyler Pham, and Dave Straw capsized any hopes the Sailors had.  The Barons ended in second place in the Sunset League.  The coaches are so proud of the boys who have come a long way through their hard work, dedication, and commitment to one another.  Great job this season and the future is bright for FVHS Football.  Go Barons!

Yesterday, the FVHS surf team had it’s 2nd contest against Edison.  Giovanna Scandone aggressively shredded her way through two 2nd places finishes!  Men’s co-captains Eric Tello and John Hoyt impressed the crowd with their excellent 3rd place finishes!  Great job FVHS Surf Team!

Attention All Girls Volleyball Players:  Please go to the Girls Locker Room during lunch today to switch out your PE Lockers.  The PE teachers will be waiting for you.

Congratulations to all of the Physical Education students who beat Edison last week in the Great American Rivalry Series Fitness Challenge!  Our Barons work ethic was impressive and fun to watch.  Awesome job Barons and congrats on beating Edison!!!

Tryouts for the Boys Volleyball well be held in the gym today between 2 and 4 p.m.  Makeup tryouts will also be held on Monday from 2 to 4.

Hey Barons! Join us at the football game tonight at Huntington Beach High School. The theme will be Hawaiian to say Aloha and Mahalo to all the seniors who have worked so hard throughout their high school career. Come out in your best Hawaiian gear!

Barons – it’s coming — the holidays are on the way and our Vocal Music Program is busy preparing for their annual holiday concert.  Taking place at Segerstrom Concert Hall on Monday, December 15, at 6:45pm.  The concert will feature all of our high school choirs, accompanied by a full, professional orchestra.   It’s gonna be a beautiful and festive night of music.   Make plans to attend.  Tickets are reserved and are on sale today by the choir room from 12-1 p.m.   Prices range from $12 to $52.   Get yours early and pick a great spot to enjoy our Baron singers!
