Fountain Valley’s varsity football team was pit against its rival Edison in the annual Bell Game at Orange Coast College on October 26.
Though the Barons were able to hold their ground through the first two quarters, they ultimately lost 3-21.
“I felt that if we pulled through with certain plays earlier in the game, we could have ended our drought,” said ASB Executive Activities Co-Director, Paul Do (’13).
The Chargers scored a touchdown and a field goal in the first quarter. Derek Huynen scored the Barons’ only points in the game with a field goal later in the quarter.
The Barons were unable to catch up to the Chargers, who scored another touchdown in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Fountain Valley wide receiver Isaiah Davis #5 was injured. Davis was driven off the field on a golf cart.
The Chargers scored the final touchdown of the game with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
The loss was the Fountain Valley’s eighth in the series since 2004.
Many Fountain Valley students felt that the referees made bad calls. For example, a touchdown by the Barons in the third quarter was ruled incomplete.
“I know that there’s a bias from me, coming from Fountain Valley,” said Do. “But I felt that they missed many of the calls out on the field.”
Band member Vartan Kazezian (’13) disagreed, saying, “I think the refs made some good calls and they made some not so good calls. I think they did a fabulous job, overall.”
