Last Wednesday, the boys and girls swim teams competed against Marina High School in a series of events. They swam hard against Marina and were able to defeat them on all levels. JV girls won 121-43, open boys 106-46, girls varsity 118-45, JV boys 132-32, varsity boys 112-50 and open girls 97-54.
FVHS swim team trained hard everyday with vigorous practice such as practices before and after school as well as weight lifting.
“All season we’ve been training four days a week with two hour practices before and after school since February,” said Dalton Kenefick (‘14), boys varsity captain.
Colton Hood (’15) swam the 100 free and won with an amazing time of 55.36 and carried his relay team to victory by swimming his part in the 200 medley relay, 100 free relay and the 400 free relay. Kyle Reilly (’16) and Connor Reilly (’14) swam in the breaststroke event with Kyle swimming the event with the time of 60.05 and Connor with 60.06. Kenefick was also able to swim in the breaststroke event with a close time of 60.09.
Our swim team had high hopes for this swim meet because of the outcomes that would have benefited their goals.
“Marina is one of the weaker teams in Sunset League so I think we have a really good chance of beating them,” said Kenefick. “Personally I’m hoping to get my CIF times today so I’ll do well.”
Also girls varsity had expected only the best from their team to achieve a sense of accomplishment.
“I was really excited because our varsity girls are undefeated and after this meet we only have one more meet against Edison and if we beat them then we’re going to be undefeated this year and that hasn’t happened since 1996,” said Katelyn Farrow (‘14), girls varsity captain.
